Frances Ann Karnemaat, known fondly as Fran, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born on September 16, 1937, in Fremont, Michigan, Fran's life was defined by her dedication to education, her faith, and her service to others. Fran was the beloved daughter of the late Herman and Hattie (Borgman) Karnemaat. She is survived by her cousins, Marlene and Kenneth Busman of Coopersville, among other relatives and friends. Fran was a cherished family member and friend, known for her strong faith, her love of learning, and her generous heart. Fran graduated from Fremont High School and pursued her passion for education at Calvin University, where she earned her Master of Education. She was a lifelong learner who believed in the transformative power of education, and she dedicated her life to sharing that gift with others. Fran was a member of Plymouth Heights Christian Reformed Church. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions, decisions, and relationships. Fran's commitment to her church extended beyond her local community, and she served as a missionary for the Christian Reformed Church, spreading her faith and love to communities around the world. One of Fran's most significant contributions came through her work in Nigeria, where she taught at a seminary college. Her time in Nigeria was a testament to her passion for education and her commitment to her faith. Fran's work in Nigeria left a lasting impact, both on the students she taught and the community she served. A memorial service to celebrate Fran's life and legacy will be held in the spring of 2024.
