Obituary

Evelyn Leona Cross-Shreve was born July 25th, 1943, in Remus, Michigan. She was a twin, one of eight children to Clifford and Lela Cross.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; Clifford and Lela Cross, twin-sister Eileen Anderson and brothers; Douglas, Gaylord, Arthur and Bradley Cross.

Evelyn was a dedicated and passionate cheerleader for Blanchard High School, which she attended and graduated from in 1962.

At an early age Evelyn accepted Christ as her personal savior and served him faithfully for the rest of her life at Grand Rapids Christian Church. She was an avid student of the Bible and witnessed her faith in Christ openly and freely to those with a listening ear.

Evelyn was a faithful employee to General Motors for more than 30years. During her tenure, she was an active union member and union steward of the UAW Local 730. A spirited and passionate leader, Evelyn stood-up on behalf of local members supporting fair labor practices, championed multiple Local 730 family picnic celebrations and lead countless Labor Day parades in celebration of her firm support to the rights of the UAW Local 730.

Evelyn was well-known for her advocacy for the democratic party. She believed in the equality of rights, opportunities, and fair treatment. It was not uncommon to see Evelyn cheering on local politicians, attending the Democratic Convention in Washington D.C and taking the opportunity to have a photo op with Senator Hilary Clinton or Senator Carl Levin. Most of all, her true excitement was shared when she was able to be present and vote in the 1st black candidate for the highest seat in office of the United States, "President Barack Obama". She loved OBAMA!!!

Evelyn enjoyed spending her days with family, whether it was attending Black Arts Festivals, trips to the family cottage, dominating the spades table with her twin or just time well spent by having a multitude of "passionate" discussions with family. Evelyn also enjoyed a great crossword puzzle, Sunday football "Go Rams" and time passed with watching the worlds current events.

Evelyn will forever treasure the moments she spent with her best friends Lynn and Nancy; trips to Ship Shawana or just simply celebrating life together. The love of girlfriends is a bond of no other and they were there until no more.

Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory her two beloved sisters Lois Hart and Shirley (Pat) Miles; a loving sister-in-law Alberta Cross; her children; Kimberly Shreve, Kenneth (Stephanie) Shreve II; grandchildren; Brandon Shreve, Tyler Powell, Angel and Mercedes Gonzales and Kenneth Shreve III. Great-grandchild; Aviana Shreve and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Special thanks to nurse "Carol Markham" and Hospice of Holland for your grace and support during the transition. The only thing better than having you for a mom is our children having you for their grandma. Love, Kimberly, and Kenner.

Additional Appreciation: To her nieces and nephews who have always expressed their love for Aunt Eve. Your love has always been faithful, whether your presence was near and far. Your love was always felt and well received; she loved each one you beyond words.
