Ellen Patricia Zomberg, 89, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024 in Grand Rapids.

She was born Ellen Patricia McCormack on March 15, 1934, the youngest child of Francis J. and Mary F. (Geary) McCormack. She grew up in Grand Rapids, attending St. Francis Xavier School and graduating in 1953 from Catholic Central High School where she met, and made, many lifelong friends. Upon graduating from Aquinas College with a degree in teaching, she married the love of her life, on June 21, 1958, Lawrence T. Zomberg, Sr. Ellen spent over three decades teaching both elementary and middle school students at various locations within the Grand Rapids Public School District. Over the years, Ellen and Larry enjoyed many summers in Grand Haven and many winters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where they made dozens of friends. Anyone who knew her, knew she was always very proud of her Irish heritage.

Ellen is survived by her four children: Lawrence T. Zomberg, Jr; William F. Zomberg; Geary M. (Teresa) Zomberg; and Patricia E. (Jason) Eppler. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Zachary, Travis, and Madalyn Zomberg; Robert, John, and Samuel Eppler; three great granddaughters; and, by dozens of nieces and nephews.

Ellen was predeceased by her husband of almost 49 years, her parents, and her parents-in-law, Leon S. and Harriet K. Zomberg, and her six siblings and their spouses: Phillip G. (Jane) McCormack, John F. (Margaret) McCormack, William F. (Maxine) McCormack, Thomas E. (Florence) McCormack, Barbara J. (Gordon) Scoville and Mary Lavina (Christian) VanDam.

A funeral service will take place at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE, on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at noon, with two hours of visitation prior beginning at 10:00a.m.

Ellen will be interred by her husband Larry at Resurrection Cemetery in Wyoming. Those wishing to honor Ellen's memory may do so by making a memorial contribution in Ellen's name to the Aquinas College Foundation, 1700 Fulton St. SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49506.
