Obituary

With deep sorrow and love, we mourn the death of Elinor Jane Jonker Fultz.

May 21, 1962 – August 1, 2024

Elinor was born to Berend Jonker and Elizabeth Lachniet Jonker in Detroit, Michigan. They are now welcoming her into heaven with open arms.

Elinor is survived by her daughter, Laurel Elizabeth Fultz and her siblings: Berend T. and Joyce Lont Jonker, Jonathan Jonker, and Jeanne Jonker Nienhuis. She has many wonderful nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who gave her great joy and laughter, as well as a number of almost-grandchildren who called her "Nanny." She also leaves behind her ex husband Gary Fultz, her dear friend Jerry Sechrest, her kind neighbors, and many great friends from Butterball Farms.

Elinor grew up in Detroit, Michigan, attended the First Christian Reformed Church in Grosse Pointe, and went to school at Grosse Pointe Christian Day School and Lutheran High School East. Elinor worked at Butterball Farms for 19 years, for the last several years as a Quality Supervisor, and was a devoted and valued member of the Butterball team. Elinor had a great sense of humor, never took herself too seriously, and wasn't afraid to share her opinions. She cared deeply about others and was quick to share a laugh with anyone. Her sharp wit and good humor were always entertaining. Aside from her family, Elinor's greatest love were her dogs. As a child, Elinor knew every dog in the neighborhood. As an adult, she always carried bones in her pocket to give to any dogs she met along the way. Although she lost her battle with cancer, she was confident in her faith and took comfort in I Peter 5:7, "Cast all your care upon him, for he careth for you."

A funeral service will be held at 4:15 pm on Tuesday August 6, 2024 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm prior to the service. Burial will be private at Woodlawn Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MI.

Because of Elinor's deep love for animals, the family requests that any memorial contributions be directed to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or to the Humane Society of West Michigan.
