Elaine Faye
Van Kley
Sep 14, 1936 — Nov 25, 2024
Elaine (Bult) Van Kley, passed away in her sleep, November 25, 2024.
Elaine was a strong, caring mother, grandmother and friend. She was born in Munster, Indiana, moved to Denver, Colorado when she was 4 years old, and then returned to the midwest to attend Calvin College. There with the encouragement of her roommate, Marlene (Van Kley) Vellinga, she met Edwin Van Kley, who became her soulmate for life. Together they raised 3 fine boys, James, Daniel, and Michael.
Elaine earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Calvin College, and worked as an elementary teacher, a preschool teacher, and a seamstress of costumes; later being promoted to the costume designer of the theater department at Calvin College after completing her advanced degree. In addition to her work life, she was actively involved in outreach at Calvin Christian Reformed Church through mentoring women through difficult circumstances and assisting with organizing the Global Gifts Shop in the Grand Rapids area and church communities. In all her years and efforts, she showed strength, creativity, diligence, and consistency.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, and is survived by James Edwin Van Kley, his wife, Alexanda, and son, Nikolaas; Daniel John Van Kley, his wife, Linda, and children, Katherine, Jonathan, and Arianna; and Michael Arie Van Kley, his wife Jodie, and stepchildren Will and Madi.
Visitation is Sunday, December 1 at the Zaagman Chapel at 1:00, followed by the funeral at 2:00. Donations to CRC Global Missions in her name are appreciated.
