Obituary

Our dear mother, Edna Carol Greenway died on January 9, 2024. We are grateful to God for her 88 years of life, and for her legacy of service and love for her Savior Jesus Christ. Mom was born to John and Minnie Beebe on November 24,1935 in Paterson, New Jersey. She is preceded in death by her husband Roger, daughter Wendy Deurloo, daughter in law Marilyn Greenway, grandson Joel Dominguez and brother John Beebe. Edna's living family includes her children: Irma Dominguez (Francisco), Kathy DeJong (Jeff), Jeff Greenway, Scott Greenway (Kelly) and son-in-law Bob Deurloo. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren: Israel, Joel, Nehemias, Nathaniel, Gabriel, Matthew, Benjamin, Benjamin, Jill, Kerrie, Sarah, Katherine, Anna, Olivia, Tyler, Justin, Brynn and Micah. and 40 great-grandchildren as well as 4 great-great-grandchildren.

After graduating from Calvin College, Edna taught 1st grade at Seymour Christian. Together Edna and Roger served as missionaries around the world: New Mexico, Sri Lanka and Mexico. After serving in Mexico for several years, our family moved to Fort Worth Texas, where mom received her MA at TCU. While teaching at Calvin College, mom (50) received her PhD, in adult education from MSU. Mom enjoyed teaching Spanish at Calvin and challenged students to learn from people of other cultures. Later, mom and dad moved to inner city Philadelphia where they both taught at Westminster Theological Seminary. Edna and Roger finished their teaching years at Calvin College and Seminary.

Mom was great at learning new technology. She was adept at reading computer manuals and teaching dad how to use a new computer. She supported dad by keeping up with correspondence, book editing and recalling people's names and who they were related to. Mom graciously accepted dad's aberrant love for dogs. There were never any dull meals in our home. Mom cooked scrumptious curries as well as authentic Mexican dishes.

In her retirement, mom enjoyed her family, welcoming new and old friends in their home. Major holidays were celebrated at the Greenways with food and fellowship for anyone who needed a place to belong. In their later years, mom and dad continued to serve on the mission committee at Blythefield CRC. Our mom always loved being with kids. Even in recent years she volunteered as a tutor at Buchanan Elementary and as a discipleship leader at The Potter's House Christian School.

As you can imagine family and friends have rich memories of our mom's genuine love for our Lord Jesus and His Kingdom.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 16, at Blythefield Christian Reformed Church (6350 Kutshill Dr. NE, Rockford, MI, 49314) with longtime family friend, Rev.
