Obituary

Edith McGuire, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024, in Grand Rapids, MI, at the age of 83. Born in Germany, Edith's life was a tapestry of warmth, dedication, and vibrant creativity that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Edith's journey led her from the scenic landscapes of Germany to the welcoming community of Grand Rapids, where she established a life filled with joy, family, and service. She was the beloved wife of William F. McGuire, with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Together, they raised a loving family, including their devoted children, William C. and Christine (Scott) Berg. Edith's legacy continued to flourish through her grandchildren, Cory, Brendan (along with his daughters Willow and Amelia), and Matthew Berg, each of whom brought immense happiness to her life.

A homemaker at heart, Edith created a warm and inviting home where friends and family gathered, sharing stories and laughter. Her hands were rarely still, as she poured her soul into painting in her younger years, gardening, cooking, and baking. She cherished every moment spent with her family, especially during day trips to Saugatuck with her daughter Christine and short trips around town with her son Bill.

Edith's life was a testament to her loving nature, her faith-filled spirit, and her friendly demeanor. She was a woman who saw the best in people and situations, and her optimistic outlook was contagious. Her presence was a comfort to many, and her ability to connect with others was truly remarkable.

Predeceased by her mother and father Alois and Ludmilla Greipel (Pientka), her sister Ilse Possert, and brothers-in-law Joseph Possert and John O'Brien, Edith's memory will be honored by her surviving sister, Ingrid O'Brien, with whom she was very close. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Robert P. McGuire. Her extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews will also fondly remember Edith's kindness and the special bond she shared with each of them.

Funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 2 at 11 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. One hour of visitation prior, beginning at 10 AM. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be directed in Edith's memory to Faith Hospice, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, or The Fatima Center.
