Duane W.
Trumpie
May 24, 1936 — Jun 29, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Duane William Trumpie, age 89, who went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday morning, June 29, 2025. Duane is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Marilyn (Toering) Trumpie. He was a man of many interests and will be remembered by all who knew him.
Born to William and Eva (Fynn) Trumpie on May 24, 1936, Duane leaves behind a loving family. He is remembered by his spouse, Marilyn Jane Trumpie, children, Brian and Phyllis Trumpie, Keith and Brenda Trumpie, Kenneth (and the late Theresa) Trumpie, Brenda Friend, Jeff and Julie Trumpie, and Jody Trumpie.
Duane is also survived by his brother Warren and Mary Trumpie, sister-in-law Sharon Trumpie, his many grandchildren and great grandchildren, Shane Knight, Valerie and Wayne Sumner, Nathan Enders, Sarah and Justin Hardy, Henry and Anna Trumpie, Sam and Katie Trumpie, Ashley Trumpie and Austin Hudson, Rachel Trumpie, Elizabeth Friend, Nathaniel Friend, Annika Friend, and eleven great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his grandsons, Joshua Trumpie and Jason Friend, siblings Allen and Ruthann Trumpie, Geraldine Trumpie Snyder Moczydlowski, Richard Trumpie, and several beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Duane's love for his large family was unwavering. He enjoyed every gathering and impromptu visit by friends or family. Duane was a constant jokester, bringing laughter to those around him. His grandchildren will forever remember how he playfully dubbed them all "George," a tradition they embraced by calling him the same in return.
Duane proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Nike in California, where he operated the radar switchboard and drove military transport. Discipline came naturally to him, but it was further forged during late-night drives with his commanding officer to retrieve wayward soldiers who had found themselves in a bit of mischief. In 2022, Duane was honored with a Talons Out Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., where he spent a meaningful weekend reflecting on service and sacrifice. In a delightful surprise, his brother-in-law, Hank Toering, was also aboard that flight—making the experience all the more memorable.
For much of his life, Duane worked as a semi-truck driver, a profession that took him on countless journeys and adventures. A lifelong bargain hunter, he had a keen eye for a good deal and found delight in haggling. It was always a thrill when he found a jar of buttons or scored a rare Pyrex percolator to add to the collection.
Duane and his beloved wife Marilyn were just shy of celebrating 65 wonderful years together, a milestone that speaks volumes about their enduring love and commitment. Marilyn was his rock, and together they built a life filled with cherished moments. Everywhere they went they made new lifelong friends. For the past several years they enjoyed winters in Texas where they loved going to the praise jams in the parks. He enjoyed the pool and getting some nap time and sunshine.
In honor of Duane the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital—a cause close to his heart. Friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate Duane's life during visitation at Zaagman Memorial Chapel on Sunday, July 6, from 5 to 8 p.m., and again on Monday, July 7, at 10 a.m., with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. with an honor guard tribute. A luncheon will follow the service where we invite you to share stories, laughter, and memories with all of us. All are welcome to join in commemorating a life so well lived.
