Doctor Douglas R. Kwazneski II, MD, FACS, affectionately known as Doug (Kwaz), passed away unexpectedly on October 12, 2023, in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the young age of 39. Doug was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, generous friend, and respected acute, critical care intensivist trauma burn surgeon who specialized in disaster management emergency preparedness.

Doug celebrated his life with his devoted wife Stephanie, and two daughters, Talia and Ronja. His parents were Cammy and Douglas. He also leaves behind his siblings Hans (Katie), Liam, Gracie and Shea.

Doug or "Kwaz" as he was known by his colleagues, was known for always being a team player and going above and beyond for his patients and coworkers. He was an awarded educator of resident physicians as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Michigan State University/Teaching Faculty of University of Michigan. He advocated for and taught point of care ultrasound. However, he will mostly be remembered for how generous he was with his time and any resources he had to his family, close friends, colleagues and in anonymous philanthropy.

Doug's life was a testament to his love for his family, his passion for his work, and his dedication to serving others. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his kind heart, and his unwavering dedication to his patients and the medical profession. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A time of remembrance and fellowship will be from 12:00pm until 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. A private family burial will be held after the memorial.
