Dorothy Joan
Byker
Sep 7, 1928 — Mar 16, 2024
Dorothy Joan Byker, age 95, devoted follower of Jesus Christ, died on March 16th, 2024. Her soul entered the immediate, conscious, glorious presence of Jesus to wait for the resurrection of the dead, and the new heaven and the new earth. Dorothy's comforting assurance throughout life was, "I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes – I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!" (Job 19:25-27) Dorothy was an active and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a valued partner in church ministry with her husband Reverend John J. Byker for 64 years. Dorothy was enjoyed and loved by family, friends, and church members. Although the last years were a struggle with pain, Dorothy was determined to continue her own self-care, keep a regular schedule, and find ways to help around the house. Part of that schedule until the end was a ministry in prayer and intentional Bible Study. Dorothy is survived by eight of her nine children, 27 of her 29 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother John Ronda Jr., son John Jay Byker, son-in-law Christopher David Kennedy, her grand-daughters Christina Marie Kennedy and Rebekah Christina Wesson-Bouma, and her husband Reverend John J. Byker. A visitation and memorial service will be held on Monday evening, March 25th at Redeemer OPC, 8605 Fulton St., Ada, MI. Dorothy's family will greet relatives and friends from 5-7 pm. The memorial service will begin at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to: Purposeful Pathways (https://www.purposefulpathways.org/) 2370 Leaning Oaks Dr. NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49525, a 501c3 that is supporting gospel ministry in Haiti, a major subject of Dorothy's prayer ministry in her later years.
