Doris J.
Vandermey
Dec 14, 1926 — Nov 17, 2022
Doris "Dori" VanderMey passed away on November 17, 2022, to be greeted by her Lord and Savior and to see her beloved husband, Herbert VanderMey and their children, Marjorie and Jim. Dori was born in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Nobleton (Toronto), Ontario. After her marriage to Herb, Dori was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis but faced that challenge with great courage over many decades. Herbert and she were extensively involved in many civic, charitable and benevolent organizations over their many years together. Dori is predeceased by her parents, Ruth Mae and Alvin Breedon, her sisters, Lois Jane Edwards and Carol Patricia Breedon. Dori is survived by her daughter-in-law, Beverly VanderMey, her brother, Jim Breedon and his wife, Joan, and so many nieces, nephews and good friends. Dori will be especially missed by her very special friend, Suzanne Ernzer who was like a daughter to her. Of strong faith, Dori's favorite passage was Romans 8:28 and she held firmly to the promises that "all things work together for those who love God." After Herb's passing in 2004, Dori continued her support of many schools, churches, and mission groups. Dori was an accomplished painter and potter. Many of her works are displayed at Porter Hills Retirement Home. She loved her garden and the beauty of many flowering plants outside her Porter Hills residence. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 10:00 am ET, with the funeral service to immediately follow at 11:00 am ET at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church located at 102 LaGrave Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503. Thereafter, a reception will be held at 1:00 pm ET at Cascade Hills Country Club, located at 3725 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. A livestream of the service may be seen at lagrave.org or zaagman.com. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church, Porter Hills Benevolent Fund and the Grand Rapids Foundation or to a cause of your choice.
