Donald W. Zeilstra was called Home on Sunday, January 26, 2025, in Grand Rapids, MI at the age of 94, just 6 weeks shy of his 95th birthday. He passed peacefully at the Breton Living Center.

Don was born on March 17, 1930 in Oak Park, IL and grew up in Cicero, IL. After graduating from Chicago Christian High School in 1948, he married his sweetheart, Verna Jabaay, and began a fulfilling career as a skilled tradesman in the construction industry as a pipefitter until his retirement at the age of 62. Inspired by his role in the construction of the Back To God Hour Broadcasting Center in Palos Heights, IL, and the refitting of the Holland Home in Chicago, IL, he used his vocation as a ministry of service.

Don was a loving father who recognized, encouraged and supported the unique character and special qualities in each of his children and grandchildren. He was dedicated to providing for his family, contributing to his community, as well as serving his church. He especially appreciated the music ministry and was a hymn singer until the end of his life.

Upon retirement, he and Verna traveled extensively throughout the world, and he played golf regularly. They relocated to Grand Rapids, MI in 2005.

Don was preceded in death by Verna B Zeilstra, his beloved wife of 73 years, his parents John and Gertrude Zeilstra, sister Evelyn Slagter and brother John Zeilstra.

Don is survived by his children: Carol Hamilton, Donald J and Steven Zeilstra. His legacy of faithful service lives on in the lives of his beloved grandchildren: Donald and Jacob Zeilstra, Joel Hamilton, Katherine Kelley, Andrew Zeilstra and Jenna Dodson, and his great grandchildren Donovan and Ezra Zeilstra, Kamdyn, Keagan, Kinsley and Kyler Kelley, and Hayes Dodson.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, February 7 at LaGrave Christian Reformed Church, Grand Rapids, MI.
