Donald Jay Schierbeek went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 30, 2022. Don is survived by his wife Judith, sister Marge Klinge, children Tim (Gina) Schierbeek, Elise, Hannah and Sydney; Tam (Matt) Bonynge, Sean and Eric Pearson; Tricia Holmes; and many nieces and nephews. Don was born to John and Hattie Schierbeek on February 12, 1931 in McBain, Michigan and together with five siblings grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Calvin College and Western Michigan University. Don worked as a math teacher in both the Grand Rapid Christian and Grand Rapids Public Schools and served for many years as an elder at Calvin Christian Reformed church. Don was a humble and gentle man with a great sense of humor who showed kindness and grace to everyone he knew. His family is thankful for the years God gave him on this earth, his influence on each of us, and most of all, the assurance that he now lives forever in heaven. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 4, from 3-6 PM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 700 Ethel Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506 (masks required). As per Don's wishes, the family will have a private burial and committal service. Memorial contributions to Faith Hospice would be appreciated.
