Dolly Anne
Geers
Aug 31, 1925 — Dec 5, 2025
Dolly Anne (Heemstra) Geers was born on August 31, 1925, in Ada, Michigan. She was a native of Cascade, a former resident of Grand Rapids, and a longtime resident of Pentwater, Michigan, where she lived for over 40 years.
Our Lord and Savior promised "Three Score and Ten," and He graciously blessed Dolly to reach the beautiful age of 100. On Friday, December 5, 2025, Dolly exchanged this earthly life for eternal joy and was received into Glory.
She was preceded in this journey by her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Fredrick W. Geers; her parents, Agnes (Timmer) Heemstra and Henry Heemstra; sisters, Joyce Rietema, Nancy Ondersma, and Carole Faye Korhorn; brothers, Hollis "Duane" Heemstra and Henry Timmer "Tim" Heemstra; sister-in-law, Mary Heemstra; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Rietema, Ivan "Bud" Korhorn, David Ondersma, and Robert Pastoor; a dear nephew, Roderick Korhorn; and, in her later years, fond remembrances of a very special friend, C.R. Waller and family.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her sisters-in-law, Jane Heemstra and Evelyn Pastoor, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Dolly was a charter member of the First Protestant Reformed Church of America. She graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School in 1943, attended Grand Rapids Junior College, and graduated from Northwest Institute of Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She received her training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
After serving in the medical field, Dolly partnered with her friend Roselle Ezinga in "The Penny Shop" on Wealthy Street for 12 years. Her love for family and friends was often expressed through the cards and notes she wrote. She especially enjoyed keeping in touch with nieces and nephews by sending birthday cards and thoughtful remembrances.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 9, at First Protestant Reformed Church (2800 Michigan St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506), with her pastor, Rev. Joseph Holstege, officiating. Dolly will be laid to rest in Cascade Cemetery next to her husband and other generations of family during a private committal service held prior to the memorial.
Dolly's family extends their gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the staff at Porter Hills Village and Emmanuel Hospice for the compassionate care and support provided to Dolly over the past two years.
Those who wish may make a memorial donation in Dolly's honor, may contribute to Eastside Christian School (2792 Michigan St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506), or follow your heart to a charity of your choice.
