David "Gord"
Zandee
Mar 4, 1932 — Aug 10, 2025
David "Gord" Zandee, 93, died peacefully on August 10, 2025, and went to heaven. He was born to David and Louwina (Borgman) Zandee, of Grand Rapids, on March 4, 1932.
Gord was proud of his service to his country through 2 years in the National Guard, and 1 year of peacetime Korean service in Germany before coming home, getting married, and launching a car repair business at an Amoco station in 1964. His love for car and engine repair never wavered through a life-long love of service to people who needed his expertise. He continued to share his knowledge into the last weeks of life.
Gord's abiding faith was readily shared with anyone who would ask about God's providence in his life. He was a long-time member of Brookside Christian Reformed Church. His family is grateful for his legacy of generosity and steadfast support for his church and Christian education.
He enjoyed shared activities of hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and spending time on the water – he loved to be in any boat with an engine running smoothly. Gord will be deeply missed by friends and family as well as customers who will miss his expertise as a master mechanic.
Gord is survived by his sister Nancy Vandenberg, sons: Michael (Donna), James (Mary), Edward (Sally), and Philip, as well as 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Paul, sister-in-law June, brother-in-law Ike, nephew Mark, niece Lynne, and granddaughter Kate.
Visitation will be held from 5pm to 8pm at Zaagman Memorial Chapel on Thursday, August 21. Visitation also held from 10am to 11am at Brookside Christian Reformed church on August 22, followed by a celebration of life service at 11am with lunch to follow. A graveside service will be held in the afternoon for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Trillium Woods in-patient Hospice where Gord received compassionate care.
