Obituary

David "Dave" Thomas Scott, 66, of Grand Rapids, MI, was surrounded by loved ones as he peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Born in Grand Rapids to James and Mabelle Scott, Dave proudly served in the U.S. Army as a sharpshooter and was briefly stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he married Linda LaNew Scott, his wife for "only" 30 years, but whose friendship, care and support extended throughout the rest of his life. Together they raised six children: Richard, Stephanie, Tabatha, Samantha, Cody, and Devin.

Guided by his love for God and family, Dave opened his home and heart over the years to many foster children, extended family, and friends.

Dave will be remembered for his humor (sometimes questionable in appropriateness!), his passion and generosity. He was the ultimate outdoorsman and thrill-seeker, with a love for horses, the woods and the water. His adventures included unforgettable family vacations, bungee jumping, skydiving and even hitchhiking across the country with his cat. Of all his life's joys, though, Dave most cherished being "Papa" to his granddaughters, Daisy and Ruby, who will forever remember him as fun-loving, strong and full of life.

Dave is survived by his children, Stephanie (Edward) Ryan, Tabatha Scott, Samantha Scott, Cody Scott and Devin Scott; his grandchildren; his brothers, Jim (Cheryl) Scott and Jerry Scott; his sister, Mabelle (Ronald) Hutt; many nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend, Linda LaNew Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mabelle Scott and his beloved son, Richard "Ricky" Scott.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Brookside Christian Reformed Church, 3600 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to follow.
