David Richard Engels, age 79 of Walker, MI went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Anne. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Rita; his son, Stephen, and daughter-in-law, Rachel; his grandchildren, Marlowe and Elliott; his dear brothers Robert and Dennis; and his many extended family members and friends.

Dave was a statistician for the State of Iowa Department of Human Resources for over 30 years where he served alongside a beloved group of colleagues before retiring to Michigan in 2015. He was inquisitive and outgoing and loved learning new things and meeting new people. He was kind and caring and went out of his way to help anyone and everyone. He loved the Lord and was an active volunteer at his churches in Iowa and Michigan. He was eager to greet folks with a hearty handshake and a good-natured joke. He had a 'green thumb' and maintained a thriving tomato and green bean garden. He could be found browsing the aisles of his local hardware store looking for the perfect tool to assist a neighbor with a task. He was a big supporter of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed cheering them on in the good times and bad. He was an avid listener of classical music and had a knack for correctly naming any tune that came on the radio.

He adored his family and cherished his grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed and warmly reminisced about for years to come.

Services will be held Friday, February 3, at 11:00am at Church of the Servant, 3835 Burton St. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49546. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00-11:00am prior to the service.
