David J. Bowman of Canadian Lakes passed away April 12th, at home, he was 91. David was a man of faith. He was proceeded in death by his daughter, Mary, his sister, 7 brothers, his father Elton and mother Clyde Mary, his father and mother in-law Gerrit and Agnes Hennink, his brother and sister-in-law Henry and Ruth Hennink, and several dear aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his wife Gertrude of 65 years and two sons Mark and Douglas (Jennifer) and his three grandchildren Elyse, Julia, and Lilly. His brother Rex (Jeanetta) Bowman, sister-in-law Diane, brother-in-law Bob (Janice) Hennink, sister-in-law Thelma Hennink, and Sister-in-law Millie (Roger) Steketee, and several cousins.

Dave was from "LA", "Lower Alabama" as he liked to say. He made his way to Michigan in 1950 and worked for Steelcase before serving active duty in the Korean war for two years. Upon his return, he entered barber school and worked his trade for over 40 years. Most notably he built and established Eastgate Barber and Beauty Salon; as well as others. He loved to play golf and spend time on the lake fishing, paddle boarding, and waterskiing up to the age of 89. Dave and Gert loved to travel and brought their young family along for many camping trips across the country, instilling the wanderlust in their sons. Most of all, he was a family man and took great pride in the successes of his children and grandchildren. His love and kindness touched many lives and he will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

A memorial service will be held at Zaagman Memorial Chapel on Monday May 8th 11:00 – 1:00 visitation immediately followed by a short service and reception.
