Cindy
Poe
Dec 29, 1956 — May 17, 2023
Cindy Poe passed away peacefully in her family's arms in the early hours of Wednesday, May 17, 2023. She will be greatly missed by her adoring family and countless people touched by her gentle and caring spirit.
Cindy began her adult journey with a scholarship to Davenport College, where she graduated with top honors in her major. It was an example of high achievement that was to become a familiar pattern throughout her life. Whether it was a new food recipe, supporting co-workers or her cherished family, she aimed for excellence in everything she did.
At the time of her college internship, she soon met her future husband. Allen was quickly and happily taken hostage by the beautiful girl with the 1000-watt smile - and 45 years of love, sweat, tears and adventure quickly followed.
In time the Poes were blessed with two beautiful children. Cindy called Michelle and Trevor her 'take home babies' as first-born daughter Melissa had died a few days after birth. And a more devoted mother may have never lived, as evidenced by the spectacular devotion of her two children.
In addition to raising children, running a home, advancing toward a bachelor's degree, and accepting larger roles in her career - Cindy was equally committed to her community. Among her many recognitions and contributions were her Davenport College Volunteer of the Year Award, Kalamazoo Public Schools Volunteer of the Year Award and East Grand Rapids High School Parent Network Co-Chair and Heather Downs Pool Association Board of Directors roles.
For fun and relaxation, 50 mile backpacking trips, sailing to new ports on Lake Michigan, 50-mile tandem bicycle rides, RV'ing, back country hiking, cross country skiing and flying to Disney World or NYC to catch a Broadway show over a long weekend were all on the menu.
Cindy had a spiritual soul and enjoyed the comradery and enlightenment of her beloved bible study groups. The evidence of a guiding hand was unmistakable during her recent illness to family and others closest to her.
You who dwell in the shelter of our god,
Who abide in his shadow for life,
Say to the lord: 'My refuge, My Rock in whom I trust!'
And I will raise you on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of my hand.
