Charles "Chuck" Smit, age 62, died on February 10, 2026 in Grand Rapids, MI, after a sudden cardiac event.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Winifred (Feenstra) Smit, his sister, Mary, and his brother, Paul. He is survived by his sisters, Sally Verstraete (Brian), Jane Smit, and Laura Smit, as well as his ex-wife, Kelly Smit, with whom he remained close. Chuck attended Oakdale Christian School, the Christian Learning Center, and Kent Skills Center. Although life was often difficult for Chuck, he remained optimistic, always hoping for a better future. There will be a private family service. Memorial contributions may be made to Mel Trotter Ministries or to Trinity Health Grand Rapids - Saint Mary's Foundation .
