Catherine went home to Jesus on Pentecost Sunday, May 19, 2024, after a quick decline due to two mini strokes. Upon realizing her time here on earth might be coming to a close she said with complete peace, "If it is my time, I'll just go to Jesus." She died at home with family where she had lived the last 10 months with her daughter and son in law. She was a woman of Grace, meek and humble of heart and dependent completely on God in all things. She will be remembered for her deep faith in God and unconditional love of family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Dale Vande Zande and siblings Casey Vander Galien, Sid and Louise Vander Galien, and Mel and Ann Vander Galien as well as her beloved grandson Matthew Vande Zande. She is survived by daughters and son in law: Ellie Vander Loon, Cheryl Vande Zande and Al and Beth Thorrez: grandchildren Nicholas and Becky Vander Loon, Ashley Vander Loon, Kegan and Katherine Thorrez and Clayton Thorrez, and great grandchildren Eli and Emma Vander Loon and Theodore Thorrez. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 24 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49546) with visitation one hour prior to the service.
