She was born to Adolph and Dora Siekman, who preceded her in death. She married Dean VanBruggen, and together they shared 57 years of marriage until his passing in 2020.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Doug) Tanis and Miki (Dave) DeWindt; her grandchildren, Krista (Andy) Stroven, Matt Tanis, Kaelee Tanis, Zach (Brittany) DeWindt, Nicole (Joel) Horstman, and Kaitlyn (Ben) Wheaton; and eight great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Henry Koning; her brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Kathy Siekman; her sister-in-law, Arlene VanBruggen; and her brother-in-law, John VanBruggen.

Carol was a quiet, caring, and gentle woman who never sought the spotlight but invested deeply in the lives of those she loved. She loved God's creation and enjoyed the flowers, birds and even grew to appreciate the squirrels outside her home.

Carol was a deeply loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 2, at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546) with Rev. Chad Boorsma officiating. Carol's family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the service.
