Carol Lynn
Lenger
Sep 26, 1947 — Jan 23, 2026
Carol Lynn Lenger, age 78, of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 23, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard; her grandson, Kyle Handlogten; and her parents, Baldwin and Thelma De Korne.
Carol will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and their spouses, Kristin and Craig Handlogten, Michelle and Jon Bergeron, and Julie and Troy Otte. She was a very caring mother and a doting grandmother to Ryan (Amber) and Matt Handlogten, Lillian Harkless, Jian and Tanner Bergeron, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. She was also excitedly awaiting the arrival of her first great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, James De Korne; her sisters, Kathleen (John) Mezoff and Janet (Thomas) Smies; her sister-in-law, Meg Littin; brother and sisters-in-law; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Carol was a beloved special education teacher whose passion for helping children shaped countless lives. She taught at Seymour Christian School for the Christian Learning Center (All Belong), and Caledonia Public Schools, where she was known for her patience, encouragement, and unwavering belief in every student's potential. She also served as a CASA volunteer, advocating faithfully for children in need.
Her faith was the foundation of everything she did. Carol loved serving her church in many capacities over the years, always with a humble and joyful spirit. She had a special love for gardening and sewing, finding peace and creativity in both. Glen Lake held a treasured place in her heart, and time spent there with family and friends created memories that will be forever cherished.
Carol's life was marked by kindness, gentleness, and a servant's heart. She loved deeply, gave generously, and lived her faith daily. Her warmth, steady presence, and unconditional love will be dearly missed but gratefully remembered by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 27, at Brookside CRC at 12 PM with visitation for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 10 AM. Memorial contributions can be made in Carol's memory to All Belong.
Her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace in the presence of her Savior.
