Obituary

Family, friends, and loved ones celebrate the homecoming of a beloved child of God, Beverly "Bev" Anne Becksvoort, who was called to her eternal rest on January 20, 2024. Born on December 9, 1948, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bev was a cherished daughter of the late Rev. Bernard and Dorothy DenOuden, and she carried their legacy of faith and service throughout her journey on this earth. She was the loving wife for almost 47 years of the late Rev. Ben Becksvoort, and together they nurtured a family that stands as a living tribute to their shared devotion. Her son Brian, married to Mei, and her daughter Beth, married to Stu Foster, are the fruits of her enduring love. Bev's siblings, brother Dave DenOuden, brother Gord and his wife Cindy, and sister Evonne with her husband Doug, along with many in-laws, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and grandchildren, will remember her with love. Bev's pursuit of knowledge was a lifelong endeavor, as she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music and Elementary Education from Calvin College in 1970, followed by a Master of Social Work from Western Michigan University in 2000. She further enriched her mind with graduate-level courses in Marital Counseling, Piano Pedagogy, English as a Second Language, Linguistics, and Child Language Development. In her professional life, Bev served as a Family and Child Counselor, a dedicated member of the Crisis Intervention and Domestic Abuse Response Team, and a Private Piano Teacher. She served her church as a pianist and organist, lifting the spirits of the congregation with her musical talents. As a Stephen Ministry Trainer, she equipped others to serve people with compassion, teaching them to walk alongside those in their darkest hours. Bev's passion for music was evident not only in her vocation but in her very essence, as she found joy in playing the piano and organ. She was a voracious reader, an enthusiastic traveler who sought the beauty of God's creation, and a woman of understated intelligence. Bev was a woman who saw the face of Christ in everyone she met and treated them with the dignity they deserved. Her legacy remains in the lives she touched, the hope she instilled, and the peace she brought to troubled souls. As we bid farewell to Beverly Anne Becksvoort, we remember her with gratitude and adoration. She has departed from the confines of her earthly vessel, released from the complications related to dementia that stole her mind and finally her earthly body. Now, she rests in the arms of our Savior, free from suffering. Bev's departure from this world is not an end but a beginning—a transition to a place where every tear is wiped away, and joy is everlasting. Let us honor her memory by living out the virtues she pursued: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Please join Bev's family for visitation at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49546) Sunday, January 28, 4-6 pm and Monday, January 29, 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held at Brookside Christian Reformed Church (3600 Kalamazoo Ave SE, 49508 on Tuesday, January 30, 4:00 pm with Rev. Paul DeVries, Rev. John Rozeboom, and Rev.
