Betty Jean
Dykstra
Aug 16, 1928 — Apr 30, 2024
Betty Jean (DeWit) Dykstra passed peacefully into her heavenly home at the age of 95 early on the morning of April 30, 2024. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Born on August 16, 1928, in Redlands, California, she met the love of her life at Calvin College, Louis Dykstra. In 1948, they were married in Redlands surrounded by her seven siblings. While she never wanted to be a preacher's wife, she served faithfully and graciously alongside her pastor husband in seven Christian Reformed Churches from coast to coast. Her husband liked to say that you can take the girl out of California but you can't take California out of the girl. He was so right, Betty's love for her hometown of Redlands never diminished over the years.
As they moved from place to place the couple grew into a strong family with the addition of four children, Jerry (Linda), Norma (Rich Rottman), Rich (Laurie), and Scott (Lori). Over the years, her legacy has grown with the addition of 10 grandchildren and 19 greats. As a great grandmother, Betty became known as GG to the family. One of her greatest joys was to spend time surrounded by family. GG will be greatly missed by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Louis Dykstra in 2003 and granddaughter, Stephanie Lee Dykstra in 1999 as well as many other family and friends.
In celebration of her life and legacy, family and friends are invited to attend visitation at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 17 at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE) followed by a memorial service for Betty at 11:00 AM. A light lunch will follow the service and a private burial service will take place at 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations on behalf of Betty may be made to the Stephanie Lee Dykstra Memorial Scholarship Fund for Calvin University Students. https://calvin.edu/support/giving/scholarships
