Obituary

Barry William Miedema, age 76

of Caledonia, MI

Barry went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 5, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. In his final selfless act, he gave the gift of life through organ donation.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Miedema and Jeanette (Tewksbury) Miedema; his brother, Ronald L. Miedema; his daughter, Tammy (Miedema) Huber; his granddaughters, Zahra and Zineb Benboubaddi; and his best friend, Dennis Hartley.

He is survived by his sweetheart, Beatrice Hartley; his brother, John A. Miedema; his daughter, Michele (Hassane Akhiyad) Benboubaddi; his son, Michael Miedema; his daughters, Amanda Miedema and Jo Miedema; as well as 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Barry accomplished many things throughout his life, but the most important to him was his family. He was a true patriarch, with a strong voice for prayer and song. He loved music, played the piano and drums, and enjoyed dancing, woodworking, hunting, fishing, Lionel trains, slot cars, and attending local racetracks. He was also a member of the Grand Rapids Masonic Temple.

Barry was a hard worker from the age of 18 until 70.

He worked in manufacturing at Kelvinator for nearly 30 years, drove a school bus for Forest Hills Schools for two years, and later retired after a successful career at 2/90 Sign Systems. He took great pride in seeing signs he had helped create in buildings throughout the area. Along the way, he formed many lasting friendships and deeply missed his work family after retirement.
