Obituary

Barbara (Barb) Jane Fles, age 64, of Grand Rapids, a beloved mother, grandma, and sister, was welcomed into the Lord's arms on April 13, 2026.

Barb will always be remembered by her children, Nikki Sherrin and Ashley and James Krikke, as a caring and loving mother. She will be remembered by her granddaughter, Maxine Krikke, as the greatest joy a girl could ask for. Her siblings, Ken and Karen Fles, Ron and Carla Fles, and Rick Fles, will cherish her memory and rejoice in her newfound home in Heaven with her parents, David and Dorothy Fles.

Barb graduated from Central Michigan University, where she made lifelong friends. She later moved to a family-favorite vacation spot on Hilton Head Island, where she worked as a dockmaster for a local seafood restaurant with its shrimp boats. There, she met her future husband, Horace Sherrin, as well as many more lifelong friends.

Barb eventually moved back to Michigan, where she earned her master's degree in social work at Western Michigan University. She served her West Michigan community through Mel Trotter Ministries, Catholic Charities, volunteering at Art Prize, and other various church-related charitable organizations. Barb's heart was devoted to serving the Lord and ministering to others.

Barb had a passion for God's gift of life. She loved her sunflower garden, rescuing animals, climbing sand dunes, camping, Arizona, butterflies, coloring, singing worship songs, taking walks, ice cream trips with her granddaughter, floating down the river, and bringing sunshine to everyone she encountered.

We are thankful for Barb and her impact on all our lives. We look forward to celebrating her life on April 19, 2026, at Grace Alone Bible Church (Cornerstone Theological Seminary, Pirsig-DeBruyn Chapel) at 1:00 PM, with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by participating in a cancer walking challenge with the American Cancer Society.
