Obituary

Anna Marie (Schmidt) Laninga passed away in her sleep on November 9, 2024. After 90 years of life on this earth, she has entered her eternal home with Jesus. Ann was born in Edgerton, MN. She lived in Chino, CA as a young girl before her family moved back to Edgerton. Ann stepped out of her little community to attend Roseland Nursing School in Chicago, IL. She earned her diploma before meeting her husband, Vernon, and settling in Grand Rapids. Ann and Vernon raised their four children in Grand Rapids. She cherished the relationships she built with fellow staff members at Holland Home – Fulton Manor, where she cared for residents for many years. She was a long-time member of Fuller Ave. CRC, where she served as a deacon and contributed in various other capacities. She joyfully volunteered her time and energy at Oakdale Christian School and later at the New2You store.

Ann was an active member of her Grief Group after the death of her son, Paul, in 1995. She will be remembered as a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Ann is survived by her husband Vernon, her children Karla, Myra (Gary), and Keith (Kerry). She loved spending time with her grandchildren: Kinsey Laninga, Kane Laninga. Leah Grasmeyer (Ben), David Warners (Liza), Adam Warners, and Hannah Warners. When she was able, she saved her biggest smiles for the next generation- Ford, Ellis, Jade, Margo, and Olivia.

Ann enjoyed sharing life with her siblings and in-laws, nieces and nephews, with whom she had many meaningful and cherished moments.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, November 15 at Raybrook Manor Chapel (2121 Raybrook St. SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49546) with Rev. Douglas M. MacLeod officiating.
