Ann Louise
Stapert
May 4, 1942 — Jun 24, 2026
Ann Stapert, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on June 24, 2026.
Ann's life was a testament of love toward whomever she would encounter; friends, neighbors, family, and especially, Calvin, her devoted husband with whom she spent fewer than a dozen nights apart throughout their 64 years together.
Born with a love for learning and service, Ann graduated as valedictorian from Kalamazoo Christian, where she met Calvin, another first-chair clarinet player, and their lifelong story began. She later returned to college when her third child started college and her youngest started kindergarten, earning her bachelor's degree from Calvin College (now Calvin University), where her husband Calvin served as a music professor. Her studies included math, economics, and business.
Ann was known for her frugality, tenacity, diligence, and selfless spirit. She lived a life centered on serving others, modeling her love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, loving all those whose needs she put above her own. She worked for Lincoln Financial for many years and gave over a decade of dedicated service as church treasurer at Church of the Servant.
She found great joy in the simple gifts of life: walking and hiking, camping, reading to her grandchildren, and spending time in the beauty of the outdoors. She especially loved Michigan's Upper Peninsula, with a particular affection for Tahquamenon Falls, as well as Ludington and the areas beyond including Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Calvin, and her children: Phil Stapert; Steve (Karyl) Stapert; Greg Stapert; Maria Stapert Vander Berg (Jeff); and Tim Stapert (Debbie).
She was preceded in death by her children Jonathan and Elizabeth, brothers-in-law Jim Stapert and Bruce Fletcher, and sister-in-law Lee Straayer.
She is survived by her siblings John Straayer (Judy), Russ Straayer, Ruth Kelly (Carl), Ruth Fletcher, and Kathy Stapert.
She was a cherished grandmother to Gabriel Stapert (Marie), Laura Stapert, Matt Stapert (Ashlee), Christian Stapert, Stephanie Stapert, Justin Stapert, Keaton Golson, Rebekah Poppen, Rachel Poppen, James Stapert, Elizabeth Stapert, Arabella Stapert, and Eliana Stapert. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Mya and Astraea. Ann is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Her legacy is one of faithful service, perseverance, generosity, and love. She will be remembered for the quiet ways she cared for others, her dedication to family, and the example she set through a life well lived.
Funeral services will be held at Church of the Servant (3835 Burton St SE Grand Rapids) on Saturday, June 27th at 12 pm, with two hours of visitation prior, beginning at 10 am. Private interment will take place at Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Ann's memory may be made to Holland Home Foundation.
