Alma Rosalie
Kuiper
Nov 3, 1930 — Apr 2, 2023
Alma Rosalie Kuiper, a precious child of God, is finally at peace after a year-long struggle with declining health after a hip fracture. She was born on November 3, 1930 and passed into eternity on Palm Sunday morning, April 2, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her husband William, her son David, her parents James and Nellie Sullivan, and 3 of her siblings. She is survived by her children William and Ruth, Daniel and Jeananne, Steven and Lisa, and daughter-in-law Lois and husband Dick Heys. Alma was blessed to enjoy 13 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Alma was born in Greys, Kentucky on a farm and came to Holland, Michigan at 16 to work at Heinz. She met her husband Bill Kuiper at the beach at Holland State Park, and they were married in 1951, and through the years, raised a family of 4 boys. During her long life she enjoyed traveling with her husband in the U.S. and abroad, water skiing, painting, leading women's Bible studies, playing the piano, working in her yard, riding her lawn tractor until she was 87, and singing the older hymns, and having many many friends. After Bill's death, she became president of Christian Radio station WFUR, the station founded by her father-in-law William in 1950. In later years she would tell everyone that she had a wonderful life. Alma loved her Lord since she was a small child and she is now meeting her Lord face to face. The celebration of her life will be at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE in Grand Rapids on April 13 at 11am with Rev. Dr. Daniel Kuiper officiating. Visitation is Wednesday, April 12 from 6-8pm at Zaagman Memorial Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorial contributions are suggested to: Westend Christian Reformed Church, 1015 Westend Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504 or West Side Christian School, 955 Westend Ave., Grand Rapids, MI 49504.
