Obituary

After a long and abundant life of love and service, Agatha Lubbers met her LORD and Savior Jesus Christ face to face in Heaven on November 2, 2023. She was 91.

Agatha, an oldest child, was born to the late Rev. George and Rena (Schut) Lubbers on Christmas Eve 1931. She is survived by her sister Greta (Tom) Newhof, her brothers Case (Fran) Lubbers and Lamm (Mary Beth) Lubbers, and her 13 nieces and nephews that she loved as if her own children: Linda (Eric) Gustafson, Julie (Philip) Rainey, Tom (Meribeth) Newhof, Anne (Bruce) Miedema, Betsy (Ted) Boelema, Robb (Tina) Lubbers, Renae (Phil) Baas, Nathan Lubbers, Erik Lubbers, Monica Lanting, Thaddeus (Lisa) Lubbers, Jeremy (Lynn) Lubbers, Lara (John) Moore. She was also 'Aunt Ag' to many great-nieces and nephews. She will be missed and remembered by her brothers and sisters in Christ at First Protestant Reformed Church and by dear friends, colleagues, and hundreds of students.

Agatha was a graduate of Randolph Christian School in Wisconsin; Calvin College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education; and the University of Michigan where she received her Master of Arts in Education Administration.

She had an enormous heart of compassion and an unending curiosity and zeal for learning and for people that filled her life and encompassed all around her. She devoted her life to Christian education as a teacher, an administrator, and a coach for women's athletics, often all at the same time. In the early years she was a teacher at Hope Protestant Reformed Christian School in Walker, MI. When Covenant Christian High School was founded, she left Hope School to become an inaugural teacher and an athletics coach at the High School, also in Walker, MI, where she later served as the Administrator. When she retired from her many positions at the High School, Agatha took on the work of leading and supporting the foundational years at Eastside Christian School in Grand Rapids, MI as its Administrator.

She was a multi-talented educator who taught hundreds of children and young people by her mastery of any subject, her godly example, her easy humor, and her genuine love for the students that she was privileged to teach.

In her family she was always present to celebrate and to support, challenge, redirect, lift up, encourage, and to receive the same. Many of her nieces and nephews also knew her as a motivating teacher, tough coach, and a highly-respected principal.

Agatha was a faithful servant of God.
