VAN WOERKOM – Mrs. Shirley Van Woerkom, age 63, of Lowell (formerly of Grand Rapids), went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, June 29, 2012. Shirley leaves behind and will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 42 years, Ken; her children: Jonathan and Jaclyn Van Woerkom, Kristi and Jason Van Ryn, Beth and Brad Veldkamp; grandchildren: Thomas, Kara and William Van Woerkom, Jack and Katelyn Van Ryn, Abram Veldkamp; siblings: William and Carol VanDop, Jean and Steve Karell, Lois Hierholzer. Shirley was a loving and caring mother and grandmother, as well as a dedicated Christian School elementary teacher. She was a Calvin College graduate and a longtime member of Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 7, 2:00 pm at Eastern Avenue CRC with Rev. Thea Leunk officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives on Thursday from 12-2 and 6-9 pm, and Friday from 6-9 pm at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel.
